Abstract
Description
Tourism at sea, on rivers or on large lakes would be very attractive if there were a means of propulsion for boats which it could accommodate. The propulsion by oars is too slow, that by sails is too little blind and that by an engine both too storytelling and too noisy to be acceptable. The present invention uses a combination of means which make the solution not only acceptable but even pleasant and which makes it possible to move in complete safety over large or very large distances (tour of Brittany, the Balearic Islands, tour of Spain, etc. ..).
These means are explained by the three figures of the single plate which represent respectively: a front view, a side view and a top view.
The first means implemented aims to reduce the propulsion effort. For this purpose the boat has not one, but two hulls 1 like a catamaran but, unlike the latter, it is not they which ensure the flotation: it is ensured for example 80% by four blades 2 of a twenty centimeters high and a few centimeters thick (6 to 7 for example for a single-seater version) obtained by attaching a blade of very light expanded material to the sides 3 of the hulls 1. The rest of the flotation is provided by the effect water skiing funds 4 of hulls 1, which funds are for this purpose raised forward in the shape of a spatula. This gives good stability to lateral forces without having to fear a bow effect on the front of the hulls.
The second means used is a high-energy muscular energy propulsion system consisting of an elongated pallet with a section in profile of an airplane wing which is shown at 5 in the 3 figures and whose movement is integral with that two parallelograms (one on each side) represented in ABCD in figure 2. The longitudinal axis of the profile of the pallet (it is a symmetrical profile) makes a fixed angle with CD that is to say again with AB and, thanks to a non-deformable triangle ABE, there is a fixed angle with AE whose direction is imposed elastically by a spring 6. In this way, the pallet 5 can tilt by pulling on the spring and, like the joint C is located near its front, it is the reaction of the water which, when it goes up and down, tilts it at an angle which is in relation to the force provided and which is adjusted by acting on the tension of the spring 6 by the crank 7 and the lever 8. The movements up and down are obtained e n extending AC to AF and creating a second pair of parallelograms AA'FF 'at two fixed points A and A'. A single pedal 9 per passenger makes it possible to pull and push alternately FF 'which causes a substantially vertical and reciprocating movement of the pallet 5. It will be noted that because of the relatively large elongation of this pallet (much larger in particular than that of a usual propeller blade) one can count on low losses by end effect and, because of the slow movement of the joints, on low friction losses. The calculated efficiency thus exceeds 85% whereas with a crankset, a speed multiplier and a propeller, it drops to around 50%. With paddle wheels as pedalos have it is also known to hardly exceed 50% either. A wide handlebar 10 secured to the sides FF 'of the two parallelograms AA'FF' makes it possible to add the force of the arms to that of the legs and also to bring the pedal (s) backwards if no provision has been made for notebooks.
Finally, the third means used is a propulsion system with vertical or substantially vertical airplane wings li which can pivot around their longitudinal axis in order to take the wind like sails.
This system is not new and it has a well-known advantage which is its great ability to wind the wind (the more you go up the wind and the more the relative speed increases and consequently the more the lift increases) as well as a mild disadvantage. no less known which is its low efficiency in tailwind as well as its difficulty in ensuring starting. additional propulsion and therefore this system which is much less bulky and comatose than a wing takes a great interest which is further increased by a provision which pockets the lateral capsizing: for this purpose the two wings have by themselves a very good buoyancy (they are made of expanded plastic covered with a protective coating) and are inclined on both sides. In this way if the boat tends to capsize on one side, the wing on this side touches the water and stops movement. The weight of the passenger (s) causes the recovery. In the sport touring version it is provided not two but four wings arranged in pairs and inclined both on both sides and forward for your front pair, towards the rear for rear pair. In this way capsizing forwards or backwards is also prevented.
The two hulls are joined by a p-lancher 12 provided with two guardrails 13 and sufficiently long and wide so that two passengers can lie down on the boat (pulled dry or anchored). A removable or semi-fixed tent can protect them both during journeys and during their sleep
The seat 14 and the backrest 15 which is carried by the guardrails 13 are all the width so that the passenger or passengers can counterbalance and compensate for the effect of the wind. Openings 16 make it possible to have food, clothing, navigation equipment, etc. in the hulls and its closable so as not to reduce the space offered to passengers.
The rudder 17 is carried by the middle and the rear of the floor 12.
It is controlled by means of a linkage by the lever 18 symmetrical with that of the lever 8.
