Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a new device, intended to improve those known under the name of tying pliers.
We know that it is often necessary to tie together pieces such as reinforcing bars to make reinforced concrete constructions. In this case the user crosses one against the other two round irons, and he assembles them, by a wire ligature. For this, it is necessary to make sure that all the strands of the ligature are well tensioned and, after tightening, the twisting, then the breaking of the wire, is carried out in good conditions
Originally, these ligatures were performed by hand, but each requiring attention, and a significant physical effort, this resulted in errors in tightening) and fatigue for the operator
A ligature pliers was then used, for example of the type known by French patent 2,491,527. Such a pliers eliminates the effort of the operator, but it is found that it ensures imperfect tightening, while, moreover , the breaking of the strands of the wire after twisting takes place in a random fashion. It sometimes results from this that the ligature comes off. In addition, given the large range of dimensions of the parts to be assembled, it is difficult to obtain perfectly regular ligatures, in particular as regards the tightening of the assembly wire and the height of the final twisted pin
The present invention aims to overcome these drawbacks, by providing a device which controls both the final tightening of the ligature, and the dimensioning of the twisted journal obtained after cutting the strands of the wire.
The device according to the invention, intended to equip a ligature pliers provided at the front with a head, the two pairs of jaws of which hold the two strands of the ligature wire tight and taut before they are cut, is characterized in that means are provided for keeping the traction of the strands constant before and during the ligation, which makes it possible to obtain a perfectly regular ligature pin, while eliminating the risks of premature or improperly placed rupture.
According to another characteristic of the invention, the means for keeping the traction of the strands constant include a system allowing the clamping head to slide forward, while it is rotating, so as to accompany the wire, which 'It keeps tight as the two strands of this wire are twisted to form the ligature pin.
According to another characteristic of the invention, means are provided for suppressing, at the end of twisting of the journal, the accompanying movement towards the front of the clamping head, when it then continues to rotate to cause, at the level of its jaws, the cutting of the strands of the wire. This provides a sectioning positioned at the desired location, at the top of a regular journal and ensuring the ligature a perfect tightening.
The annexed drawing, given by way of nonlimiting example, will allow a better understanding of the characteristics.

Figure 5 shows the ligature thus obtained after cutting the wire.
The device illustrated in the drawings equips the front of a ligature pliers 1, of the type known for example from French patent 2,491,527. This clamp 1 ensures the passage of a metal wire 2 around two crossed concrete irons 3 and 4, which it is proposed to tie. The two strands 5 and 6 of the wire are held, by their ends, between the two pairs of jaws 7, 8, and 9, 10 of a clamping plate 11 driven or immobilized in rotation about its axis 12, by known means not shown. The rotation, or stopping, of the plate 11 are defined in the known manner, according to a programmed operating sequence. In the example illustrated, the clamping head 13 carrying the plate 11 is provided with a gear 14 which ensures its drive in rotation.
The entire head 13 is capable of sliding along its axis 12, under the action or against a compression spring 15 (double arrow 16). In addition, the body of the clamping head 13 has an external thread 17, which is screwed into a fixed nut 18.
At its rear end, the head 13 is secured to a stop piece 19 which rotates with it, and is capable of abutting against a sliding piece with a groove 20. In the groove of the latter, which thus constitutes a walkman, is engaged the end fork 21 of a lever 22 rocking about a fixed axis 23. The tilting of the lever 22 is controlled by the push of a jack 24
Furthermore, in the axis, and inside the clamping head 13, is a sliding rod 25, the rear end of which is connected by a stopper cup 26, and a compression spring 27, to the rear of player 20. The setting of spring 27 is lower than that of spring 15
Finally, at the front of the rod 25 is a conical nut 28, placed between two spring blades 29 and 30, the rear ends of which are secured to the clamping head 2. At the front, the blade 29 is secured the movable jaw 7 which moves opposite the fixed jaw 9 of the plate 11; likewise, the blade 30 is integral with the movable jaw 8 which moves opposite the fixed jaw 10
When the nut 28 moves back (arrow 31) it separates the blades 29 and 30 from one another, which has the effect of tightening each pair of jaws 7, 9 and 8, 10 and thus exerting a tightening d calibrated intensity (defined by the setting of the spring 27), on the strands 5 and 6 of the metal wire 2. In particular, if the tension of this thread exceeds the chosen threshold, the strands 5 and 6 can slide forcibly between the two pairs of jaws 7, 9 and 8, 10.
The operation is as follows
The two spring blades 29 and 30, comprising the jaws 7 and 8 for tightening the wire, are fixed to the rotating ligating head 13. Facing the movable jaws of the blades, the two support jaws 9 and 10 are integral with the ligating head 13
The two end strands 5 and 6 of the ligating wire 2 are introduced, each on one side of the ligating head by any suitable means.
After introduction of the wires, the lever 22 is raised by the jack 24, or any other suitable means
In this movement, he also lifts the player 20; the latter, by means of the spring 27, pulls the rod 25 backwards (arrow 31). The conical nut 28 integral with the rod 25, then moves backwards and, in this movement, spreads the blades 28, 30, which thus clamp the wire between the two pairs of jaws 7, 9, and 8, 10.
It is easy to understand that the force of pinching the wires is controlled and limited by the spring 27, which has been calculated for this purpose.
Furthermore, the spring 15 has been established with a higher force, in order to prevent the ligating head 13 from moving back before the wires are tightened with the desired force.
The first part of the stroke towards the rear of the lever 22 therefore makes it possible to tighten the wires. However, this lever continues its movement, and, still driving the sliding part 21, abuts it on the part 19 which is integral with the ligature head 13. At this time, the whole ligating head is driven backwards (arrow 31, FIG. 3), and the spring 15 is compressed.
In this movement, the tight wires between the jaws are pulled, and come to tighten energetically on the irons 3 and 4 to be tied. The force of tightening of the wires given by the spring 27, has been calculated in such a way that the wires slide between the jaws 7, 9, and 8, 10 before arriving at the breaking load of the wires.
Furthermore, the upward stroke of the ligating head 13 has been determined, in order to catch up with all of the "slack" of the wire 2 due to defects in preparation for ligation.
By this process, it is therefore certain to tighten the wires 2 around the irons 3 and 4 in a constant and regular manner, and, at the same time, we begin the operation of executing the twisted pin 32 at a height 33 constant.
Of course, the means described here for tightening the wires are only secondary, any device making it possible to tighten the wires in a controlled manner, and to slide them, to bring the ligating head to the desired height, while tightening the wire on the irons in a constant manner, could be used.
The device for controlling the regularity and the height 33 of the twisted pin 32 continues to operate in the following manner
When the ligating head 13 is rotated, the lever 22 is released, and the head
returns forward, under the force of the spring 15. This advance travel is calculated to compensate for the geometric effect of crossing the strands 5 and 6 of the wire at the start of the rotation aimed at twisting them.
This rotation is therefore effortless at the start, and without untimely pulling on the wire.
Then, through the thread 17 executed on the ligating head 13, and the fixed nut 18, the head. while turning, keep moving (arrow 34, figure 4). The step of this advance is calculated to correspond to the step of formation of the pin 32 of the league.
In this way, no untimely effort is made on the pin 32 in formation, so as not to cause its premature rupture.
This stop in the advance is caused by the stop of a shoulder 35 on the stop 36 of the body of the clamp.
The head 13 continuing to rotate, the wires of the end of the pin 32 are then hardened and break and the height 33 of the remaining pin is a function of the distance existing between the stop of the concrete irons 37, and the low position of the head tying 13.
This means that the height 33 of the pin 32 can be controlled and adjusted on demand.
It is understood that the device described corresponds to the following characteristics
It is based, in particular, on a sliding assembly of the ligating head which, initially, rises, and comes to draw the ligature wire, at the desired tension value, in order to tighten it energetically on the irons.
In a second step, the ligating head, while turning, accompanies the movement of formation of the journal, avoiding any unexpected tension of the wires, in order to avoid premature rupture of the journal
Finally, when it is estimated that the trunnion has the desired length, the head stops its descent, while continuing to rotate. In this movement, the wires of the upper end of the trunnion are broken by work hardening, and separated from the ligature.
