Abstract

Composite panels for constructing the walls of a heated enclosure comprise a core layer of insulating material pref. expanded glass, having the inner surface clad with a sheet of stainless steel and the outer surface clad with a sheet of aluminium. The borders of the panels are enclosed by a channel profile and opt. strengthened by a peripheral timber frame. The different materials of the inner and outer cladding are closed so that for an operating temp. of e.g. above 100 deg.C, as used for drying edible pastes, the thermal expansion of the inner and outer cladding due to the product of the coefficient of thermal expansion by corresponding change in surface temp. is material. The panel borders retain their section profiles throughout operational thermal cycles, so that associated joints or interfaces are unlikely to part and leak. The steel inner surface also offers good heat and moisture resistance, compared with which the outer aluminium cladding saves wt.

Description

The present invention relates to insulating panels used for the construction of dryers, and it is more particularly aimed (because it is in this case that its application seems to be of most interest), but not exclusively, those intended for isothermal coating. enclosures for drying pasta such as noodles, spaghetti, macaroni and the like.

Insulating panels of the aforementioned type known at present use, as basic constituents, either wood or synthetic materials of various natures. While these materials give conventional panels insulating characteristics which can most often be considered satisfactory, the same is not true with regard to heat resistance, especially when dealing with high drying temperatures. , exceeding 1000C, as well as the resistance to deformation.

It is these drawbacks that the present invention intends to remedy and this using an insulating panel essentially remarkable in that it comprises, on either side of a mass of expanded insulation material, a stainless steel sheet and aluminum sheet, the stainless steel sheet being intended to be turned towards the interior of the dryer.

The invention is based on the fact that in order to avoid the deformations resulting from expansion, it is necessary to adopt, for the two coating walls of the panel, materials having clearly different expansion coefficients, the material with the largest expansion being arranged outside the dryer so as to be subjected to a lower temperature as a result of the intermediate mass of insulation material. As the material which has the lowest coefficient of expansion is subjected to a higher temperature, one finally reaches for the two materials a linear expansion practically equivalent, which is opposed to the appearance of the deformations.

It should also be noted that the choice of stainless steel and aluminum is further explained by the fact that these are two shiny metals, the high reflecting power of which improves the thermal insulation characteristics. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to whining and humidity, while aluminum due to its lightness avoids excessive weight.

The appended drawing given by way of example will allow a better understanding of the invention, the characteristics which it presents and the advantages which it is capable of providing.
The single figure of this drawing is a schematic vertical section of an insulating panel for a dryer established in accordance with the present invention.

The panel shown essentially comprises an insulating title mass l held between two lateral tabs 2 and 3, the assembly thus formed being stiffened by a wooden frame 4 assembled to the aforementioned sheets using a metal border 5.

The insulating material which forms the mass 1 can be of any kind, but to resist the high temperatures necessary for the drying of certain materials, it is advantageous to use expanded glass with hydrogen sulfide, of the kind of product known in the trade as the "FOAMGLASS" trademark, or to a phenolic foam. The t8le 2 which is intended, once the panel is mounted in the dryer, to be turned towards the inside of it is made of stainless steel, while the opposite sheet 3, which constitutes the outer face of the envisaged panel, is made of aluminum. For the edge 5, a U-section profile is used, the central veil of which is integral with a profiled longitudinal projection 5a for anchoring forcefully in the thickness of the frame 5; this profile or border 5 is preferably made of aluminum.

Tests have shown that such a panel provides insulation at least as satisfactory as conventional panels, while being able to withstand much better temperatures above 1000C with high humidity. Its dimensional stability is remarkable, owing to the differentiated thermal expansion coefficients of the tales 2 and 3 which, having regard to the different temperatures to which they are subjected, finally exhibit on the linear plane an equivalent expansion.

Afin d'éviter toute dégradation de l'encadrement de bois 5, on a recours, pour la fixation des panneaux1 à des joints aux silicones 6 disposés en retrait par rapport audit encadrement. it should be observed that this dimensional stability and the absence of any marked deformation of the panels according to the invention make it possible to construct, thanks to them, practically sealed drying chambers along their walls, which constitutes a factor significant savings and efficiency. In order to avoid any deterioration of the wooden frame 5, recourse is had, for the fixing of the panels 1 to silicone seals 6 arranged recessed with respect to said frame.

It should also be understood that the above description has been given only by way of example and that it in no way limits the field of the invention from which one would not depart by replacing the execution details described by all other equivalents.
