The tensioner for a roller blind comprises two folding arms (4), each consisting of two tubes (7,8) which are pivotally interconnected about an axis (9). The first (7) is hinged to a fixed support (5) whilst the second (8) is hinged to a rod attached to the free end of the blind. Each houses a spring (18). One end (19) of the spring is attached to a cable (21) which passes over the axis (9) and is secured to the second element. The other end of the spring is attached to another cable (24) which passes over the joint (12) and is secured to the support.
