Abstract

Thermal insulation panels are attached to walls or ceilings via metal spikes welded to the structural frame of the roof or building and upon which panels of mineral wool and/or cellular plastics materials can be impaled. Pref. the spikes are of a refractory steel and are carried on rails. The spikes are pref. barbed and opt. fitted with slotted collars which can rest on the barbs to control the level at which successive panels are supported. A sheet of glass fibre fabric waterproofed by impregnation with silicone resin may be used to cover the face of the insulation. Simpler and lighter than use of pendant frames to carry the insulating panels. The fixing is highly resistant to disengagement by shock, e.g. vehicle impact, earthquakes, etc.

Description

The present invention relates to a process for thermal insulation and sealing of walls and, in particular of ceilings or mechanical floors.

More particularly advantageously, although in no way limiting, the method according to the invention is intended to ensure thermal sealing of ceilings or mechanical floors in buildings where very high temperatures may appear, for example following an accident, in order to allow the necessary emergency interventions, in the room isolated from said temperatures.

Thus, the claimed process is applicable, in an interesting manner, to the thermal sealing of the floors or ceilings of nuclear power plants.

The invention also relates to mechanical insulated ceilings or floors thermally insulated according to the claimed process.

The insulation and thermal sealing of ceilings or floors and, more particularly, of mechanical ceilings or floors, are generally obtained by means of plates or mattresses of suitable insulating materials, supported by horizontal bearing structures suspended from the ceilings by devices. various.

This method has many disadvantages such as: - a high cost price resulting in particular from the cost of the horizontal load-bearing structures and their suspension devices, as well as the need to use scaffolding for the installation of said structures and insulating plates; - A relatively long exposure time due to the use of scaffolding which it is necessary to erect, then dismantle, ~ and to the establishment of horizontal load-bearing structures; - the difficulty of implementation for floors or ceilings which are not horizontal or which include projecting elements (pipes, beams, etc.) - the excess weight resulting from the use of horizontal load-bearing structures of large dimensions; - their poor resistance to shaking such as earthquakes for example.

An object pursued by the present invention is therefore to remedy the aforementioned drawbacks of the known methods intended to ensure the thermal sealing of ceilings or floors.

This objective is achieved by means of a process according to which metal studs are welded, from place to place, by one of their ends, on the elements carrying the framework of the wall to be insulated, then at least impaled a plate or mattress of insulating material on said studs, so that said plate is crossed by the latter which preferably have a pointed free end, there is, finally, successively, on the emerging portion of each stud, a member of 'quick positioning stop cooperating with additional retaining means which are provided with said studs.

According to another characteristic, at least two plates or mattresses of insulating material such as ceramic fibers are positioned successively in an identical manner.

According to another characteristic, a sheet of glass fabric reinforced with silicone is positioned, in the same way, following the plate or plates of insulating material.

According to another characteristic, the studs are arranged vertically.

Les avantages de ce procede sont nombreux. The advantages of this process are numerous.

It mainly uses vertical, simple and light load-bearing structures.

Its implementation is quick, convenient, and much more economical than that of traditional methods.

It can be used just as quickly and conveniently to achieve the thermal seal of floors, ceilings or other walls which are not horizontal or which comprise projecting elements such as ply of pipes, beams, etc.

I1 makes it possible, in certain cases, the removal of scaffolding, by the use of a trolley rolling on the soles of the supporting structures of the floor.

I1 resiste bien aux ébranlements. It resists shocks well.

It makes it possible to oppose the propagation of very high temperatures.

These aims, characteristics and advantages, and others still, will emerge more clearly from the description which follows and from the accompanying drawings in which
Figure 1 is an exploded view in vertical section, - showing the components used for the implementation of the thermal insulation method according to the invention.

Figure 2 is a vertical sectional view of an insulated mechanical ceiling or floor according to this process.

Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view of a stud of known type, constituting an element of the vertical supporting structure.

Figure 4 is a bottom view of a stop plate intended to cooperate with said stud.

Figure 5 is a bottom view showing a plate in the fixing position on a stud.

Reference is made to said drawings to describe an example of implementation which is interesting although in no way limiting, of the thermal sealing process according to the invention.

According to this process, metal studs 1, executed in refractory steel when the desired thermal seal must oppose the propagation of high temperatures, are welded, from place to place, by one of their ends 2c, on the beams metallic or other metallic supporting elements 2 of the framework of the wall to be insulated such as ceiling or mechanical floor.

These elements being generally arranged parallel to each other, the wall is provided with several parallel rows of studs after welding of the latter.

The studs 2 preferably have a length greater than the thickness of the layer of insulating material with which the wall is to be coated.

On the other hand, in the interesting application of the process for insulation and thermal sealing of ceilings or mechanical floors, the studs are arranged vertically.

When the studs have been welded to the load-bearing elements of the wall, at least one plate or mattress 3 of insulating material is impaled on said studs, so that said plate is traversed, in its thickness, by the latter.

To favor the penetration and the passage of the studs 2 through the plate 3 of insulating material, the latter advantageously comprise a pointed free end 2a.

Then, on the emerging portion of each stud, there is a quick-positioning member cooperating with complementary retaining means with which said studs are provided.

The studs 2 comprise, in a manner known per se, diametrical notches 2b aligned on at least the lower portion succeeding their pointed end, these notches constituting stepped retaining means of the quick-positioning stop member which is, in this case consists of a plate 4 provided with an axial orifice 4a for the passage of the stud rod and two diametrical notches 4b communicating with said orifice for the passage of the notches 2b of said studs.

It is thus possible to make the stop plate 4 slide freely along the studs 2 by bringing the notches 2b and the notches 4b into coincidence, the blocking taking place by giving a 90 "rotation to the said stop plate.

When the thermal insulation must oppose the propagation of high temperatures, the stop plates 4 are also made of refractory steel or other material capable of withstanding such temperatures.

Preferably, in the manner just indicated, at least two plates or mattresses of insulating material 3 and 3 ′ are fixed in superposition.

These insulating sheets or mattresses can be made of any material suitable for the thermal insulation sought.

However, in the application to the thermal insulation of floors or mechanical ceilings of nuclear power plants, plates or mattresses of refractory mineral wool are used such as plates or mattresses of ceramic fibers.

In this case also, at least one sheet 5 of glass fabric reinforced or impregnated with silicone is fixed, according to the same process, following the mattress or mattresses of ceramic fibers 3 or 3 ′. The sheet or sheets of silicone reinforced glass fabric 5 is or are impaled on the studs 2, following the insulating plate or plates 3 or 3 ′ and fixed (s) by means of the stop plates 4 on said studs.

This process makes it possible to effectively oppose the propagation of very high temperatures.

Thanks to this procedure, it is possible, for example, to limit the temperature rise in the isolated room to around 100 "after 3 hours, when the temperature reaches 1 2000 beyond the wall isolated.

When it is desirable, a removable cover (not illustrated) can be fixed on the emerging end of the studs, after installation of the plates, mattresses or sheets constituting the insulating coating.

The advantage and the advantages of the thermal insulation process according to the invention, and of the insulated ceilings or mechanical floors according to this process, emerge clearly from the above description and the attached drawing.

Also within the scope of the present invention, the modifications or substitutions which may be made, by a person skilled in the art, to the thermal insulation process and to the ceilings or floors described, and which, without altering the original characteristics, would only be simple technical equivalents.
