Abstract

The vacuum operated brake servo has a two part servo housing (36, 37) supported on an inner tube (10) in which the operating valve slides. The moving membrane is linked to the valve by radial pegs (41) in slots (30) in the tube, with the membrane extended to form a rolling seal as the servo operates. - The inner part of the membrane is clamped to the servo valve between the tube and the rest of the valve and has a wide fold to form the rolling seal. No complex sliding seals are required to separate the vacuum chamber from the atmospheric chamber in the servo while the inner tube reinforces the servo and prevents distortion of the thin metal housing.
