Abstract

The gas conduit closing valve is particularly for ventilation passages, having a sealing ring fixed to the periphery. A lever can (14, 12, 4, 26) is provided to compress the ring (20) in a direction at right angles to the valve and thus increase its cross-section in the plane of the valve. This pre-loads it against the inside of the conduit wall (6). The valve can comprise two parallel plates, between which the sealing ring is mounted. Alteration of the distance between the plates causes the ring to distort. Together they can form an annular chamber at their periphery to accommodate the ring, so that inwards distortion is limited.
