Abstract
The extension ladder has two parts (A,B), with the upper part (B) sliding with some play in the guides provided at the top of the lower part (B). A cord which forms a triangle in side elevation passes down the front of the lower part around the bottom and top rung and then both its ends are tied to the bottom rung (7) of the upper part (B). The fixing to the rung uses a quick but safe release and when the ladder is extended by pulling down on the cord, the two parts are locked together in the usual way by clipping the brackets (13) onto a suitable rung.
