Abstract

The hinge is for use with a ladder in two or more sections and usable as a telescopic ladder, a stepladder, or in separate sections. It comprises two hollow half-open components (14) fixed to the top ends of the uprights of the wider ladder section, and in which the uprights (26) of the narrower section fit. The latter can pivot at any point along their length between the telescoping position in which the narrow section bears against the wide one, and the stepladder position. The components are open for their whole length at the side towards the rungs, and each has a notch (38) facing upwards to accommodate any of the rungs of the narrow section in the latter position.
