Abstract

The injection valve has an axially displaceable sleeve (16), which is arranged between the nozzle body (2, 3) and the valve needle (12). At the bottom end the sleeve (16) has a step (21), which is provided with a control edge (22) interacting with the nozzle bores (7) in the valve body (2, 3). When the engine is at full load the sleeve (16) is raised so far by the pressure of the fuel that all nozzle bores are freed, allowing the fuel to flow through. At partial load the sleeve (16) is locked by pressure medium actuation in its bottom position in which it only partially frees the cross-section of some of the nozzle bores (7) with its control edge (22). This permits a good fuel jet formation even at partial load.
