Abstract

The nozzle comprises a valve member 8 formed with a head 12 providing a taper (13), Fig. 3 (not shown), to seat against the surface (14) downstream of a bore portion 16, and the taper extends to a shoulder (18) the peripheral surface of which defines an annular gap (19) with the bore portion constituting a throttle for as long as the shoulder lies in the bore portion. This is the case during a first part of an opening stroke of the member 8 and thus the fuel flow is throttled by the annular gap, (19), but on further movement of the member the shoulder emerges from the bore portion 16 and ceases to act as a throttle. <IMAGE>
