Abstract
The air is pre-compressed to about 5.6 atmospheres in the double acting compressor. It is then admitted to the storage space through a valve. The air is then admitted to a series of chambers where it is heated to 600 deg. C at constant volume, allowing the pressure to rise to 10 atmospheres. The air is expanded to 1 atmosphere in the double acting cylinder. The chambers have a floating piston with a valve to separate the hot and cold air, which is in the upper and lower chamber respectively.
