Abstract

The post-installed tie bars (16) impart live load continuity to structures comprised of reinforced columns (11) and supporting beams (51, 52) simply supported. It can be applied to single or multi-bay portals. In the latter case, the column extends to the same height as the top of the beams, with brackets (31, 32) locating beam bearings. Horizontal sheathed ducts (14), aligned and parallel to the longitudinal beam axes, are preformed in the head of the column and in upstanding beam ends. The upstands are formed by vertical steps. and, once the beams are placed, the tie bolts (16) are threaded and secured by nuts (19) on bearing plates (24). Single bay portal details are applied to only one side of the column. The vertical gap between the beam end and column is grout filled.
