Abstract
Articles are ultrasonically cleaned by exposing them to an ultrasonci field as they are transported through a bath of liq. The transport path is formed by a member which has ultrasonic transducers mounted on its undersurface so that the articles receive direct vibration from the member when they mech. contact the member during transport. The time duration of passage of articles along the path can be controlled, e.g. by altering the inclination angle of the member. The transport path may be defined by an endless belt conveyor, a gutter or a pipe. Used in cleaning of mass produced parts, e.g. screws, nuts, bolts, ball-bearings and precision parts. Since the parts are brought into mechanical contact with a member that mounts an ultrasonic transducer, efficient cleaning can be effected at lower energy levels and during shorter treatment times. Cavitation damage is reduced owing to shorter treatment times and lower energy levels.
