Abstract

The valve may be used to provide a low pressure sampling point (4) on a high pressure liquid feed pipe (3). It utilises a conical plunger type obturator (16), and is designed to reduce cavitation wear. A conical radial shoulder (15) of the obturator head co-operates with a matching valve seat to control communication between the main feed (3) and a tapping (4), with divergence of the two faces authorising through flow. A series of detent or pressure-release chambers (20) are provided between the valve aperture (14) and the outlets (12) to the tapping (4), thus, reducing cavitation effects. The obturator may displace axially in a housed (1a, 1b) core sleeve (7), having a nominally conical shaft (17) with the least dia. downstream. Similar flanged annular pieces (18) line the sleeve bore (10) to form the detent chambers, shaft conicity giving rise to progressively increasing intercommunicating apertures (19).
