Abstract

In knitting a fabric with loops of rovings, to give a pile fabric, there is a circle of latch needles, sinkers and roving feed stations to deliver the yarn and the rovings to the needles. The needles and the sinkers are operated so that they produce a tubular fabric with inserted tufts of roving fibres. The free ends of the roving tufts are blown out from the needle circle so that they are inserted in the knitted fabric, so that a looped pile is developed on one side of the material. The process allows a varied insertion of fibre tufts into the fabric, while it is being knitted, to give a tubular pile knitted material.
