Abstract
The magnetic pump is for electrically conducting liquids which follow a helical path through the pump. The pump which is reversible has the stator windings (5) of a normal asynchronous motor wound directly over a cylindrical annulus (1) formed by two co-axial electrically insulating tubes (2, 3). The helical path of the liquid is defined by a continuous spacer (4) between the tubes, which itself is helical through the pump length. The co-axial arrangement can be replaced by different pitch spacers or by a helical wound tube. The flow rate is controlled (6) by varying the supply frequency to the windings.
