Abstract

1,078,226. Petrol filter. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Jan. 28, 1965 [Feb. 17, 1964], No. 3764/65. Heading B1D. [Also in Division G1] Apparatus for measuring the level of fuel in a tank comprises a resistance element mounted on a vertical rod, associated with a slider carried by a float, the device incorporating a petrol filter and suction tube. As shown (Fig. 2) a hole in the upper wall 12 of a petrol tank is covered by an insulating member 18, comprising a disc portion screwed down to the wall and a right-angled tube with a part 30 extending into the tank and a part 24 extending away from the tank. Suspended from the member 18 are three rods 36, 38, 40 carrying a plate 34. A plastic float 54 is located between the rods, and co-operates with a resistance 44 wound on rod 40 to indicate the liquid level. The plate 34 carries a mesh filter 50 at the bottom of the assembly, allowing fuel to be withdrawn from the tank through the filter via tubes 30, 24.
