Abstract

The emergency life raft is inflated with carbon-dioxide stored in a bottle (12). The bottle (12) is sealed with a metal disc (16) which is burst by a tubular knife (6) when the need arises to inflat the raft. The tubular knife (6), which is prevented from rotating by a guide (2b), has an extension (2) which is screwed into a collar (3). A cord (4) is wound around the collar and whn the cord is pulled the collar rotates and drives the tubular knife into the disc (16) and allows the gas to flow out of the bottle.
