Abstract

The signal balloon is for a diver. The balloon, in its folded state (2), is inside a container (1) mounted over the small gas bottle (8). A light reel (18) with a thin line (18) is secured over the top of the container to allow the inflated balloon to rise to the surface. The gas bottle is filled with a light gas so that the balloon rises above the water level for easy identification by search craft. The whole system is compact and light enough to wear on the diver's belt.
