Abstract

1393572 Inflatable rescue aid P H HARDINGE 20 Aug 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 39146/72 Headings B7G and B7W [Also in Division H4] An inflatable rescue aid intended particularly for use by a person in difficulty at sea comprises an inflatable balloon 1 of a distinctive colour enclosed by a net 2 to which are secured strips 3 of radar reflective material, the balloon and net being secured to a bottle 5 containing inflation gas in either liquid or gaseous form, the lower part of the bottle forming a housing 7 for a lanyard 6 which is secured to the person's apparel. The balloon is normally enclosed by a plastics container which is screwed to the neck of the bottle and may be released or ruptured upon inflation. In an alternative embodiment the bottle, lanyard and collapsed balloon may be stored in an openable container and the balloon is of natural rubber enclosed within a plastics film of distinctive colour to the outer surface of which are secured encircling metallic strips which serve as radar reflectors.
