Abstract

The partition wall is of a cavity construction with a filling of insulating material (7), and has rails (4) fixed to the ceiling, the floor and boundary walls (2) for substructural support. The rails are of rectangular section in timber, being fixed in place as a first operation. Narrow full height panels(5) are then positioned side by side and on each side of the rails, being individually fixed to the rails at the head and foot, and the end panels being fixed (6) to the wall rails. The vertical edges of the panels are rebated to form half housed joints (13), bonded and inserted spacer pieces (8) serving to reinforce the joints. The panels may be 40 cm wide and of 2 to 2.75 metres in height, each comprising two identical plasterboard pieces bonded (10) together with offset vertical edges.
