Abstract

A defluidised zone is formed in the bed around the inlet opening and the articles are introduced into the bed through this zone. The gaseous screen causing this defluidisation is formed by a row of gas ejector nozzles directed across the opening, and pref. two rows facing each other. These nozzles are supplied with gas from the gas supply to the fluidised bed. The articles are pref. introduced into the bed through an external chamber around the opening, and may leave the bed by a similar chamber. Partitions may be provided between the inlet and outlet openings, dividing the bed into a series of separate compartments operating at different temps. Aligned openings in these partitions enable the articles to be conveyed through the beds formed, in turn.
