Abstract

Fresh air (18) is admitted to the rooms of a building through grilles (15). Vitiated air is exhausted through an extract unit (8) in the roof space into ducts (10) running across the roof space and into the cavities (4) of the external walls. The inner leaves (2) are of thermally insulating material and have a further layer of insulation (3) on the cavity side. The outer leaves (5) are of more conducting material. The discharged air forms an additional thermal barrier to heat transmission between inside and outside and thus reduces energy consumption.
