Abstract

La présente invention concerne l'utilisation de sulfate ferreux et sa transformation en sulfate ferrique au cours de la réduction électrochimique des solutions titanifères dans un électrolyseur à diaphragme. Du sulfate ferreux résiduaire de la fabrication du bioxyde de titane par voie sulfurique est introduit sous forme de solution dans le compartiment anodique d'une cellule d'électrolyse, tandis que dans le compartiment cathodique de la même cellule s'effectue simultanément la réduction du fer ferrique contenu dans la solution titanifère. Le procédé permet une importante économie d'énergie électrique par rapport aux procédés électrolytiques connus, à la fois pour la réduction électrochimique des solutions titanifères et pour la transformation du sulfate ferreux en sulfate ferrique.
