Abstract

The engine has a piston (3) reciprocating in a cylinder (1) which forms part of a cylinder block (2). The output shaft (8) carries a cam (7) which has a T section with a profile forming the head of (9) the T. The piston sits on the profile and is held to it by two plates (14, 15) which are bolted to the underside of the head (9) of the T between them. The profile of the cam is such the reciprocation of the piston in the fixed block causes the cam to rotate at uniform speed and the cam takes the shaft with it.
