Abstract
L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de pièces en alumine béta alcaline. Elle consiste en ce que, successivement, on réalise un mélange intime de poudres d'alumine et de carbonate alcalin, on chauffe en creuset ouvert ce mélange, on laisse refroidir, on broie, on met les pièces en forme, on les fritte, ce frittage étant réalisé en disposant les pièces dans une enceinte de frittage confectionnée en une matière réfractaire telle que le béton, cette enceinte étant revêtue au moins en partie en son intérieur d'une couche d'alumine béta alcaline présentant sensiblement la même composition que celle des pièces, ladite couche étant apte à créer au cours du frittage et au voisinage immédiat des pièces une atmosphère riche en sodium, ledit frittage étant en outre réalisé en chauffant ladite enceinte à une température comprise entre 1600 degrés et 1 700 degrés C maintenue en 30 minutes et 4 heures, puis en laissant refroidir librement l'enceinte jusqu'à la température ambiante. L'invention est mise en oeuvre dans la fabrication d'électrolyte solide pour générateurs sodium-soufre.
