Abstract
Procedimiento para la fabricación de perlas de vidrio celuladas, en el que una mezcla que comprende partículas de vidrio y un agente celulante es conformada en nódulos y tratada sub- siguientemente con calor para producir la fusión del vidrio y el desprendimiento del gas del agente celulante, para formar perlas de vidrio celuladas que son enfriadas después hasta una condición rígida , caracterizado porque la naturaleza del agente celulante es seleccionada de manera que durante el tratamiento térmico las fuerzas de expansión debidas al desprendimiento del gas de tal agente, son generadas completa o casi principalmente mientras la viscosidad del vidrio está dentro de la gama de 10 elevado a 6,5 hasta 10 elevado a 8,5 poises y porque la cantidad del agente celulante utilizado, la temperatura máxima del horno (mencionado en lo que sigue como horno celulante) en el que se produce la celulización (cuyo máximo no está por encima de la temperatura que corresponde a una viscosidad del vidrio de 1o elevado a 5,5 poises) y el tiempo de permanencia de las perlas en tal horno, son seleccionados de una manera tal que las perlas que salen del horno están pobladas de células y las perlas enfriadas tienen una densidad a granel de no más de 0,5 g/cm3 y una permeabilidad al agua menor de 15% en volumen, determinado por el ensayo de inmersión especificado.
