Abstract

La présente invention se rapporte à la fabrication de grains de verre cellulaire obtenus à partir d'un mélange comprenant des particules de verre et un agent cellulant; ce mélange est mis sous forme de nodules puis traité thermiquement dans un four pour obtenir des grains de verre cellulaire obtenus par la fusion du verre et la formation de gaz à partir de l'agent cellulant Cette formation de gaz se fait lorsque la viscosité du verre est comprise, lors du traitement thermique, entre 10**6,5 et 10**8,5 poises. Les grains qui quittent le four comprennent des cellules réparties à travers leur masse; ils sont refroidis et présentent une densité en vrac inférieure à 0,5 gr/cm**3 et une perméabilité à l'eau de moins de 15 % en volume. Ces caractéristiques leur confèrent une utilisation industrielle très appréciée par exemple dans la formation d'éléments légers isolants.
