Abstract

La présente invention concerne le domaine des colorants pléochroiques, des substances liquides nématiques et de leurs applications. colorant pléochroïque selon l'invention est de formule C14 H6 O2 (-N = CHC6 H4 X)2 dans laquelle C14 H6 O 2 est un résidu d'anthraquinone, C6 H4 est un groupe p-phénylène et X est un groupe nitro, cyano, phényle, alkyle, alkoxy ou di-(alkyle inférieur)-amino; le dispositif électro-optique utilisant ce colorant comprend une cellule 8 contenant, entre les parois 12 et 14 rendues conductrices pour l'application d'un champ électrique, une substance cristalline liquide nématique contenant le colorant pléochroïque précité à l'état dissous. L'invention s'applique en particulier aux dispositifs électro-optiques d'affichage.
