Abstract

L'invention concerne la fabrication de préformes en silice pour la réalisation de fibres optiques. La préforme est obtenue à partir d'un tube de silice 20 dont la paroi interne est recouverte d'une couche de matériau contenant un oxyde volatil, puis est rétreint par passages successifs dans une zone à température élevée. Durant cette opération, une légère surpression est maintenue dans le tube au moyen d'un mélange gazeux contenant de l'oxygène et un halogénure de l'élément contenant ledit oxyde volatil. Ce mélange circule à travers le tube 20, un réservoir 23 puis une longue tubulure 24. La concentration de l'halogénure ou oxyhalogénure en rapport avec l'oxygène est telle qu'elle compense au moins en partie la perte en oxyde volatil lors du rétreint L'invention trouve son application dans la fabrication de préformes de fibres optiques.
