Abstract

Copper alloy contains (by weight) 0.1-0.5% Co, 0.04-0.25% P and balance Cu, pref. 0.15-0.35% Co and 0.05-0.12% P, esp. with wt. ratio Co:P of 2.5-5:1. The alloy pref. also contains max. 0.15% Ni and/or Fe, with 0.05% max. Ni, 0.1% max. Fe and 0.4% max. Co, esp. contg. 0.12-0.3% Co and 0.05-0.12% P, with (Ni + Co + Fe):P of 2.5:5:1. The alloy pref. also contain max. 1% comprising 0.01-0.35% Mg, 0.01-0.7% Cd, 0.01-0.35% Ag, 0.01-0.7% Zn, and/or 0.01-0.25% Sn, balance Cu, esp. using Mg and/or Cd. The cold worked alloys are pref. annealed at least once at 500-700 degrees C. They may be soln. treated at 700-930 degrees C., quenched and then cold workeD. Hot working may be used to effect a soln. treatment, followed by quenching when the blank is still above 600 degrees C. The soln. treated and worked alloys can be tempered at 500 degrees C. Annealed and worked parts can be soln. treated and tempered. The alloy has an excellent combination of high electric- and thermal- conductivity and good mechanical strength.
