Abstract

1411865 Sintered iron alloy TOYOTA JIDOSHA KOGYO KK 14 Aug 1973 [18 Aug 1972] 38437/73 Heading C7A A free cutting sintered alloy having high strength and consisting of Cu 2 to 8% C 0.2 to 0.7% S 0.3 to 1 % Fe balance and having a theoretical density of more than 96%. The alloy may be prepared by compounding and moulding the above composition to 80 to 85% of the theoretical density, sintering the moulded product at 1100‹C to 1150‹C for 20-30 minutes in a non-oxidizing atmosphere and recompressing in either a hot or cold state to increase the theoretical density to more than 96%. The alloy may then be subjected to heat treatment e.g. normalizing, oil quenching from 900‹C and/or tempering at 580 C and may be used in structural applications.
