Abstract

A rotary heat exchanger has its rotor constructed from a number of sectors in turn built up from corrugated plates (26) supported between curved plates (34a to 34e) and radial plates (32). The curved plates (34) are welded to the radial plates (32) along the joints (35). Because of the alternate heating and cooling of each sector and the forces due to the weight of the rotor and the pressure differences across the rotor, there is a tendency for the sectors to distort. This distortion is prevented by welding diagonal bracing bars (38) and tangential bracing bars (42) between the radial plates (32).
