Abstract
Continuous rolling mill train includes a row of stands, each contg. a pair of work rolls in upper and lower chocks. Either the upper or lower chocks can be moved to alter the roll gap. The upper chocks are each supported in their stand windows by a spring-loaded set of levers, and a set of clamping levers so that the chocks can move to a limited extend in the horizontal direction (RL) of the rolling line. A load sensor bar is fitted in a hole in the stand on both the inlet and exit side, one end of the horizontal bar being in contact with one side of an upper chock, the other end of the bar entering a load cell emitting an electric signal (Si, Se) indicating the stress (L) on the upper chocks on the inlet (i) and exit (e) sides of the mill. The stress values (L) arise from the rotation of the rolls in each stand which generate tensile stress and/or back-pull in the workpiece in the spaces between the stands on line(RL); and signals (Si, Se) are used to control the r.p.m. of the rolls and thus the stress in the workpiece. Used e.g. for controlling the tension and/or back-pull on thick workpieces during rolling.
