Abstract
Drums (3, 23) are rotatably mounted on respective shafts (1, 22). Pulley (25) is fast with drum (23) and connected by belt (27) to pulley (26) which is free to rotate on shaft (1). Adjacent faces of drum (3) and pulley (26) have oppositely inclined ratchet teeth (6, 19). A control sleeve (8) carried by shaft (1) has teeth which will mesh with teeth (6, 19). A pin (10) fast with shaft (1) engages in an inclined slot (9) in the sleeve. When handle (2) fast with shaft (1) is rotated as arrow (11) the sleeve (8) moves to engage drivingly with the drum (3). A web of paper (4) is drawn from freely rotating drum (23) and is wound on drum (3). Reverse rotation of the handle engagles the sleeve with pulley (26) so that drum (23) is driven whilst drum 3) is free to rotate.
