Abstract
The site-joint for precast reinforced concrete frame uses a system of bar-tendons (9) and wedges (15) to provide a definitive moment of resistance at an otherwise dry-joint. The joint may esp. be used in portal frames. It joins roof (4) and leg (3) members at the angles between the two members and enables the legs to be pinned at their bases. The ends of the conjunctive members may be single stepped, and each member (3, 4) may be traversed by four similarly and symmetrically disposed longitudinal holes (7). Two holes open out on each vertical face (6) of the member-end, and transverse openings (10) meet each hole (7) at a fixed short distance from the member-end. Threaded bars (9) are placed in each hole (7), traversing the joint, and are anchored in each opening by a nut (13) and washer (22). A tubular screw-jack (15), fitting over each bar (9) between members, ensures traction across the joint and provides tolerance.
