Abstract

A thick low density felt is produced from a carded lap of e.g. natural or synthetic fibres at which an adhesive is sprayed at a spraying station. The lap is then fed into a pneumatic felting device which breaks up the fibres into a homogeneous mass using air currents. Finally the fibres are deposited as a felt on a perforated support surface having the form of a perforated roll or a perforated plate. Suction is applied to the underside of the support surface. The felt is thick, has low density and is highly uniform, thereby eliminating flaws and reducing breakages.
