Abstract

932,681. Agglutinated fibrous materials; laminates. DE-NO-FA OG LILLEBORG FABRIKER A.S. Feb. 7, 1961, No. 4494/61. Classes 42 (2) and 140. Boards of glass or mineral fibres impregnated with a binding agent are made by a method in which the fibres are distributed on a conveyer by a pronged drum and the binding agent, in amount of 5-30% of the weight of the fibres, is sprayed in liquid form into the fibres after delivery from the drum and before final compression. As shown, a fibrous mass 2, fed by belts 1, is broken up, and the fibres reduced in length, by a pronged drum 5. On delivery from the drum on to a conveyer belt 8 the fibres are evenly sprayed with binder through one or more stationary or reciprocated nozzles 4, are compressed lightly by a roller 6 and finally compressed to the desired degree between belt 8 and an upper belt 8a. The completed board may, for use as acoustic board, be coated with porous paint or have a perforated cover sheet or sheets, or may be enclosed in a perforated box of metal, wood or plastics material. Alternatively a web 10 of woven glass fibres coated at 12 with binding agent, may be applied to its surface by the belt 8a. A carbamide resin may be used as the binding and coating agent. Other suitable binding agents are phenol-formaldehyde resins, protein materials, casein and unsaturated polyester resins. U.S.A. Specification 1,489,567 is referred to.
