Abstract
Plastics, pref. polyurethane, hard foam made in a closed mould and contg. steel reinforcements having superficial profiling, e.g. reinforced-concrete armatures, are used for the mfr. of load-bearing building components. The foaming operation proceeds in dependence of generation and transfer of heat. Owing to controlled rapid loss of heat through the mould walls the resulting foam has relatively small cells giving a dense foam with good resistance to shear. This substantially reduces risk of delamination from the embedded reinforcement. Deformation behaviour of the prods. can be closely controlled to ensure that they will withstand stresses arising in building components subjected to static loads.
