Abstract

The safety device secures a load to the hook of a hoist block suspended from the crab of a gantry or portal crane. It comprises two jaws (71) movable in relation to each other between an open position freeing the opening in the hook and one shutting it off. The jaws can be mounted on levers pivoting on axes on the hoist block. The distance between the axes can be greater than the max. distance for which the lifting tackle on the hook extends. There can be a jaw centring ring fixed to the hoist block, and through which the hook passes. The levers can be closed by springs, and pulled open by rope.
