Abstract
An inflatable structure resembling a balloon, and designed for storage of very large quantities of gas, has a diaphragm attached to its sides dividing it into two chambers. The upper chamber is connected to a conduit for supply and discharge of the gas, and the lower chamber is connected to a conduit in which is mounted a fan. Air can be blown into the lower chamber to discharge the gas from the upper chamber. A set of springs can be used to support part of the diaphragm to prevent it blocking the air supply conduit. Alternative spring arrangements can be used to prevent both conduits from being blocked. In further designs, part of the outer skin can be fitted with springs, which are stretched during filling, but which assist a rapid discharge. Other tensioning systems can be used, also arrangements for structures in series.
