Abstract

The apparatus for handling rolls of material consists of a spigot (3), provided with retractable claws (5), which is fixed to one end of a curved rail (16) forming a quadrant. The spigot screws into the core (2) of the roll (1) which is supported at its exterior by a pivoting grip (14) attached to a traverse (19) of the quadrant. This traverse is inclined at an angle of 6 deg. to the horizontal. The curved rail is equipped with a sliding pulley block (22) which can be attached to tackle sliding along a girder so that the roll can be moved and also swung from a horizontal to a vertical position.
