Abstract

The long-stroke single- or double-acting ram has a piston working in a cylinder between two breech ends. The thrust of the piston is transmitted by means of flexible metal strips passing through seals in the breech ends, and then through 180 deg. round guide rollers mounted on the breech ends and attached to the ends of the actuator slide. The strips can be anchored to the piston by means of a pin having flats at the ends against which the strip ends are clamped, and offset from the piston centre line. A semi-circular groove is machined in the drilling wall and also in the pin, accommodating a set of metal balls, so as to secure the components in the axial direction while allowing them to pivot in relation to each other.
