Abstract

1319270 Grippers CHEVRON RESEARCH CO 9 Oct 1970 [10 Oct 1969] 48211/70 Heading B8H [Also in Division E1] A pipe gripping mechanism forming part of a drill tube handling apparatus (see Division E1) consists of a fixed cylinder 88 in which slides a movable cylinder 92 under hydraulic or pneumatic pressure introduced at 91. The gripping jaws 100, 101 are pivotally mounted on the movable cylinder and are opened and closed by hydraulic or pneumatic pressure applied to a piston 106 within the movable cylinder 92. The fluid to the piston 106 is admitted through a line 112, and the piston is spring-biased towards the position in which the gripping jaws are open.
