Abstract
816,129. Chucks. BERTHOLD, L. Feb, 1, 1957 [April 6, 1956], No. 3601/57. Class 83 (3). In a fluid-operated chuck having a cylinder 1 with a piston 2, non- return valves 8, 13 are arranged adjacent the cylinder and are alternatively opened by a plunger 15 to release the pressure from the appropriate side of the piston. To actuate the piston 2, fluid, admitted at a connection 3 in a non-rotary sleeve 5, passes through a channel 7 in a rotatable member 9, attached to the cylinder 1, and displaces the plunger 15, which opens the valve 13 to release pressure from side B of the piston. It also opens the valve 8 and passes through channel 10 to submit side A of the piston to pressure. The piston is moved in the opposite direction by fluid, admitted at connection 4, which passes through annulus 11, passage 12, valve 13 and channel 14, the plunger 15 having been displaced to open the valve 8 and release the pressure from side A of the piston.
