Abstract

The lifting gear is used on a tower crane to give a choice of speeds. It has a vehicle type differential (6) mounted at the fixed end (1), of the boom (2, 3) driven by a motor (8, 9). A drum (11, 12) is fitted to each half shaft, each having a cable (16, 23). One Cable (16) passes over a pulley (17) on the carriage (4) around the lifting sheaves (18, 19) over a pulley (21) on the carriage opposite corner and is fixed (22) to the boom. The other cable (23) passes over the remaining carriage pulleys (24, 28), over a block (16, 25) between, and is similarly fixed (29). By selectively braking the drums, lifting and carriage speeds can be varied.
