Abstract

1406448 Cable hoisting system; reels HAVEN ERECTION & ENG Ltd 30 May 1973 [30 May 1972] 25226/72 Headings B8B and B8M An adapter for inclusion in the cable system of a hoist for producing a two cable output from a one cable input, comprises a large diameter drum 13A and two smaller like diameter drums 14A, adapted to revolve together, preferably due to being integral. Cables 4A, 4B extend from motor driven winches 2A, 2B over sheaves 5 to be wound on the large drum portions 13A, 13B of two adapters 12A, 12B and pairs of cables 15A, 15B are wound in the opposite direction to the cables 4A, 4B on to the smaller drum portions 14A, 14B and extend over sheaves 6, 7, 8 to a grab 16, for supporting and operating the grab. The sets of sheaves 7 and 8 are mounted on trolleys movable through cables and a trolley motor, along a track on an overhead support, the trolley carrying the sheaves 7, moving at only half the speed of the trolley carrying the sheaves 8. In the embodiment of Fig. 4 (not shown) the integrally formed three part drum includes grooved surfaced large and small diameter portions having flanges at the ends thereof and being freely mounted on a shaft through bearings.
