Abstract
A wind powered generator is provided with a larger number of parallel inlet ducts (1) (2). The ducts guide the air to a ring of fixed inlet vanes which surround the moving blades of a turbine which is mounted with its axis vertical. The turbine drives a generator having 100 pairs of poles so that the current is generated at a frequency of 50 HZ at a low rotational speed. The machine has an inlet cross sectional area of 500 square metres and produces 20 MW of electrical power. The intake ducts are mounted on a circular track so that they always face into the wind.
