Abstract

A burette, for mounted upon a burette drive, comprises a cylinder, a piston reciprocating in the cylinder and feed and discharge lines for liquid and also a three-way valve for connecting the lines to the cylinder. The cylinder is a length of glass tube, cut perpendicularly to its axis to form open ends and held in a clamping device. Pref. the clamping device comprises upper and lower clamping rings bearing against the ends of the glass tube and each comprising a bore, the bore in one ring being to permit passage of the piston rod, while the bore in the other ring is for liq. passage. Each ring has an annular ridge to locate the glass tube. Used partic. for titration experiments, the arrangement enables a more robust, compact and economic unit to be attained than with the contentional system.
